Tridacna and Gigas OBC Survey
Working with seismic contractor Geokinetics, Empress Marine supplied vessels for the Tridacna and Gigas 3D OBC (OCEAN BOTTOM CABLE) shallow water seismic survey inside North Scott Reef for Woodside Petroleum.
The survey was difficult in many ways due to the distance offshore and the remoteness of the location. Situated 425 nautical miles north of Broome, and 300 nautical miles from the nearest land, North Scott Reef is an enclosed, mainly uncharted reef area with only two narrow, shallow entrances.
Empress Marine supplied the main recording vessel for the contract. Bottom ocean cables were installed into the vessel for data recording throughout the survey. Empress Marine also supplied an ROV vessel for fouled cable recoveryand the accommodation vessel, all of which remained on site for the duration of the project.
Being in such a sensitive marine area, strict environmental control was imposed and adhered to throughout the project, with all work commended by Woodside.
